East Sussex County Council is seeking a Senior Trading Standards Officer to join our ambitious Trading Standards team, working alongside a team of dedicated professional colleagues to ensure the highest standards of trading and ensuring we provide the highest level of consumer protection possible.
As a Trading Standards Officer you will be reporting to a Senior Trading Standards Officer, where you will play a key role in delivering Trading Standards services across East Sussex County Council. You will have responsibility for your own caseload, work. You will be joining a team of Trading Standards Officers who are passionate about providing a safe and fair trading environment in East Sussex. The successful applicant will take the lead role for a discreet area of Trading Standards law and will be required to represent the authority at a regional and national level.

You will be responsible for the enforcement of the full range of Trading Standards legislation, including:

  • Responding to complaints and enquiries
  • Undertaking proactive work
  • Sampling of goods and services
  • Inspecting businesses
  • Providing business advice
  • Investigating alleged offences
We are looking for candidates who:
  • Has communication skills
  • Has the ability to deal confidently with a range of stakeholders and situations
  • Is equally comfortable working alone and as part of a team of officers to achieve the goals of the service
  • Has a track record of successful investigations with the ability to prioritise your workload
  • Can assess complex situations and meet both corporate and statutory deadlines

To be considered for this position you must hold a professional qualification in Trading Standards Level 6 (DCATS/DCA/DTS/CPCF or equivalent) and have experience in the role.
