East Sussex County Council is seeking a Senior Trading Standards Officer to join our ambitious Trading Standards team, working alongside a team of dedicated professional colleagues to ensure the highest standards of trading and ensuring we provide the highest level of consumer protection possible.
As a Trading Standards Officer you will be reporting to a Senior Trading Standards Officer, where you will play a key role in delivering Trading Standards services across East Sussex County Council. You will have responsibility for your own caseload, work. You will be joining a team of Trading Standards Officers who are passionate about providing a safe and fair trading environment in East Sussex. The successful applicant will take the lead role for a discreet area of Trading Standards law and will be required to represent the authority at a regional and national level.
You will be responsible for the enforcement of the full range of Trading Standards legislation, including:
- Responding to complaints and enquiries
- Undertaking proactive work
- Sampling of goods and services
- Inspecting businesses
- Providing business advice
- Investigating alleged offences
We are looking for candidates who:

Has the ability to deal confidently with a range of stakeholders and situations

Is equally comfortable working alone and as part of a team of officers to achieve the goals of the service

Has a track record of successful investigations with the ability to prioritise your workload

Can assess complex situations and meet both corporate and statutory deadlines
To be considered for this position you must hold a professional qualification in Trading Standards Level 6 (DCATS/DCA/DTS/CPCF or equivalent) and have experience in the role.
