We are seeking a SEND Quality of Education Adviser in the SEND Quality of Education team. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to advise and support SENCos and school staff to improve the standard of teaching and learning for children and young people with SEND and support schools to ensure inclusion and improved outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

In the SEND Quality of Education team, you will be part of an innovative Education Division which is unique to East Sussex. You will work as part of an experienced team of managers and advisers to support both Secondary and Primary schools to provide targeted support and CPD to identified schools; jointly working with key professionals from a range of services.

The key function of this role is to:

  • Assist school staff in analysing the needs of learners with SEND and identify appropriate actions to develop the school’s provision of high-quality inclusive teaching and learning to improve outcomes.
  • Develop and provide training, guidance and support to staff across the Education Division and within schools on identification, early intervention and effective support for children with SEND.
  • Contribute to cross county SENCo meetings and networking opportunities to advise on and promote evidence-based good practice.
  • Contribute to the Quality Assurance process for schools with a Facility provision and/or Special schools across East Sussex.

The postholder will also work closely with the Deputy Service Manager for the team, so that support, including training and reviews are allocated equitably and effectively in response to identified needs of schools. The postholder will be a qualified teacher who is committed to securing better outcomes for all children and young people including those with additional needs. The role will require specialist knowledge, high quality service delivery and an ability to work with a range of professionals and families. The post will be county wide.

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Have QTS, demonstrable experience in schools and the ability to travel.
  • Knowledge of effective methodologies for supporting children and young people with SEND in mainstream schools.
  • Have up to date understanding of education legislation and guidelines that support SEND and are able to challenge and support stakeholders with this.
  • Have experience of supporting children and families with SEND and wider needs.
  • Have a genuine interest and skill in developing practice in schools and developing professional and supportive relationships.
  • Are able to work collaboratively, proactively and with autonomy across settings.
  • Have a passion for education and a desire to make a difference.
