Do you want to make a difference to waste services in East Sussex? Then this role could be for you. The waste service manages all the waste and recycling that our residents create. Everyone uses the service, and we work with our districts and boroughs and several contractors to deliver it.
One of the waste team's main priorities is managing the long-term contract with Veolia. Veolia operates several services on East Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council’s behalf. The waste team makes sure that Veolia are doing the job we have asked them to do. The service provides Household Waste Recycling Sites (HWRSs), a composting facility, a recycling sorting facility, waste transfer stations and an energy recovery facility.
The Contract Monitoring Officer conducts regular facility inspections. You have an eye for detail focusing on operations, compliance and health & safety. Acting as the main contact for residents, you administer the booking system for the tips and update web pages as needed. The role involves collaborating on and leading projects, building strong relationships with contractors, districts & boroughs, colleagues. You will also be handling data analysis, processing payments, and monitoring budgets. Proficiency with spreadsheets is essential, as the Officer supports the management of waste and financial data for the team’s operations.
Driving is an important part of the role. Our sites are located across East Sussex and Brighton & Hove. You will need your own vehicle and be able to organise your workload to ensure that regular inspections are carried out.
