Do you have a passion for supporting children, young people, and their families? If you have a strong inclusive ethos and a desire to see improved outcomes for young people with special educational needs and disabilities, this could be the job for you!

The Education Division’s Interim Provision Service (IPS) are seeking to recruit one highly experienced and dynamic Learning Mentor to join this exciting team within Children’s Services on a fixed term, one year basis. We are looking for a Learning Mentor for the Hastings and Eastbourne areas.

As a Learning Mentor you will be working with children and young people who have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP). You will have the chance to give them the confidence and opportunity to progress in life. Your skills and knowledge will play a key part in shaping their future.

You will play a vital, hands-on role in transforming the educational journey of vulnerable children and young people during critical transition periods. This role offers the unique opportunity to deliver personalised mentoring directly within young people’s homes, conduct essential welfare checks, and actively support teaching and learning in a specialist IPS centre. With a flexible and autonomous working style, you will collaborate closely with dedicated multi-agency teams; including parents, carers, and teachers, ensuring holistic support that addresses both academic and personal development needs.

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Will undertake responsibilities in supporting children and young people with transition support and targeted interventions.
  • Will be a highly effective learning mentor who is committed to supporting children and young people whilst they are awaiting a school placement.
  • Have effective communication skills and an ability to work successfully with a wide range of people.
  • Are able to travel throughout Hastings and Eastbourne to provide mentoring support, so own transport and driving licence is essential.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has the skills to support service improvement and development.

To apply for this role, please follow the ‘Apply Now’ button above and upload your CV and a Supporting Statement. We will be using your Supporting Statement to shortlist so please be sure to address how you meet all the criteria in the person specification, drawing on any relevant work/life experience, education, or personal interests.

For guidance on how to write an application see our how to apply page. They give you all the guidance you need to complete your application as well as information on what will happen after you’ve submitted your application and at interview.

Please download the Job Description and Person Specification for more information.

Interviews will take place on Wednesday, 4 February 2026 and will be in the form of a face-to-face interview, followed by a task. This will be at Cavendish House, Hastings.

Candidates who meet certain criteria are given priority when we shortlist. See our priority status page for details.

Your commitment will make a tangible, life-changing difference by providing stability, encouragement, and tailored learning experiences while young people await their educational placements.

What can we offer you?

  • A motivated team committed to the continuous improvement of outcomes for children and young people.
  • A commitment to a model of reflective practice based on regular supervision to support all employees in their professional development.
  • A continued professional development (CPD) programme to ensure your personal and professional skills and knowledge are enhanced and developed to support the performance of the service.
  • A fellow team of motivated and committed professionals, and a supportive wider management team.
  • We also offer a diverse range of benefits to help and support you during your employment. More information can be found on our benefits page.

Salary will be pro rata for term time only working.
