We are looking for a Fair Trading Officer to help the Trading Standards Team protect consumers and promote a safe and fair trading environment across the County. The right candidate will help us to achieve this by bringing their knowledge and skills from either another consumer protection environment or another enforcement/regulatory environment. You will work alongside our partner organisations like Environmental Health, Sussex Police and HMRC, and you will need to demonstrate a real team ethic.

We will provide additional and continued learning to help the successful candidate interpret and enforce a wide range of consumer protection legislation using an intelligence-led approach to inspection, sampling, advice, education and investigation.

We are looking for candidates who are self-motivated and willing to undertake further learning, leading to a recognised trading standards qualification. If you do not have a Trading Standards background, some transferrable skills will be essential as well as knowledge of the consumer protection environment. You will have excellent customer service and communication skills, be thorough in your approach and a team player. In some circumstances, you may be required to work on your own and use your own initiative, and you will be encouraged to suggest new ideas for service improvement.
