Do you want to make a difference to waste services in East Sussex? Then this role could be for you.

The waste service manages all the waste and recycling that our residents create. Everyone uses the service, and we work with our districts and boroughs and several contractors to deliver it.

The waste team is small and one of our main priorities is managing the long-term contract with Veolia. Veolia operates several services on East Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council’s behalf. The waste team make sure that Veolia are doing the job we have asked them to do. The service provides Household Waste Recycling Sites (HWRSs), a composting facility, a recycling sorting facility, waste transfer stations and an energy recovery facility.

The Data Analyst (Contract Monitoring) is an important member of the team. You will be responsible for the data generated by the service. Every truck load of waste and recycling generates a unique ticket. Thousands are created every week. The information is used to work out our recycling rate and what we need to pay for our services. The data analyst is responsible for maintaining and improving the systems in place that manage our data, as well as mandatory data reporting to comply with government guidelines.

You will be an advanced Excel user and you will be able to learn quickly and work effectively across other data systems that relate to the job.

You will also work closely with other team members regarding data and financial issues, and you will sometimes work on your own projects. You will build up positive relationships with our contractors and our districts and boroughs and other colleagues.

Your covering letter must demonstrate experience of –

  • Managing and manipulating large and complex datasets
  • Generating both written and statistical reports that display complex information in an easy-to-understand format as well as presenting reports and dashboards to stakeholders.
  • Working effectively with multiple stakeholders
  • Working independently but knowing when to escalate issues

We are accepting CV and covering letters for this role. You must provide a CV with a covering letter and it must demonstrate how you meet the bullet points above.

Interviews will take place in person. Interviews will be taking place on 14 and 17 October. If you are unavailable on these dates let us know and we may be able to schedule an alternative date to interview you.

We offer a diverse range of benefits to help and support you during your employment. More information can be found on our benefits page.
