Animal Management Technician

College location: John Ruskin College

Hourly rate: £14.89 (£12.78/hour + £2.11/hour as payment for annual leave)

Hours: 18.5 hours per week. The days are Sunday, Monday and one other in the week (flexible to accommodate your schedule).

Join our dedicated, brilliant Animal Management team and play a vital role in ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare, practical learning, and day‑to‑day operational support. As an Animal Management Technician, you will help maintain excellent husbandry standards, prepare and organise resources for practical sessions, and ensure our facilities run smoothly and safely. You’ll work closely with teaching and support staff to create an engaging, well‑managed environment for learners—supporting activities such as animal feeding, handling, enrichment, accommodation maintenance, and routine welfare monitoring.

Reliability, attention to detail, and a proactive approach are essential, as you’ll be instrumental in keeping the animal unit safe, compliant, and ready for learning each day. The successful candidate must have:

  • A full and clean driving license
  • Experience working with a variety of animal species
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of animal care, welfare, and ethical conduct.
  • Minimum Maths & English GCSE / Level 2 equivalent
