East Suffolk Council is an exciting place to work, delivering essential local services and making a real difference to a quarter of a million people across East Suffolk. We currently have an opportunity to join East Suffolk Council's Coastal Property team as a Beach Office Assistant.
Your role
The post holder will join the Coastal Property team within Property and Place which attends to the beach huts in Lowestoft, Southwold, Sizewell and Felixstowe. This role requires an agile working approach, practicality and the ability to positively represent our Beach assets and services throughout the year. Day‑to‑day, the work will include:
- Greeting customers
- Dealing directly in person/phone/email with customer and public enquiries
- Processing Beach Hut Hire bookings
You will work as part of a small team and will have key-holding responsibilities, be involved in the administration relating to bookings including website system usage and other processes such as in-person electronic payments from customers. You will need to help best present the huts and associated areas. The work will involve using your own initiative to resolve issues arising and follow response processes.
Please note, the role will include regular weekend working as part of standard week throughout the year. The post holder will be required to attend to suit hut bookings and the service need throughout the year with highest demand during main season. The role will include outside in the Resort as well as in the office. The hours are variable over the year to meet the seasonal demands of the role therefore, working hours per week may vary between 22-37 hours typically each week (i.e. annualised). It is anticipated greater hours would be worked May - September and lesser hours works October - April. This role requires cover 7 days per week. Bank holiday working will also apply.
We are looking to recruit 2 posts; the working base for the first post will be the Lowestoft beach office located on the promenade at Lowestoft Beach and the second post is based at Seashore Village located adjacent the promenade at Felixstowe Beach. You must indicate in your application which location is being applied for.

The successful candidate will be flexible to respond to the demands and requirements of the seasonal services represented by the service area and have excellent communication skills, care, attention to detail and accuracy. The candidate will hold office experience and have awareness of Health, Safety and welfare, maintenance and repair.
