Your role
Working closely with the Chief Finance Officer and Section 151 Officer , you will assist with the delivery of the Council’s Medium Term Finance Strategy and contribute to the development of corporate best practice on securing economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in the use of resources. You will champion continuous improvement in processes and practices within Financial Services and across the Council to support the rapidly changing environment in which we work and to ensure the ongoing resilience of the team.
In terms of projects for the Financial Services team, our focus is always around two key pieces of work each year – year-end close down and financial budget setting. This is in addition to ongoing financial monitoring and reporting daily.
One of the key characteristics of the team is the desire to continually seek improvement in the financial service we deliver, both as a team and on an individual basis. The demands and environment that finance operates in is always evolving, and so being innovative, resourceful, and up to date with relevant legislation is an essential element of the role. Financial Services focus will be to continually seek to explore how we can use new and exciting technology to improve the efficiency, timeliness, and relevance of reporting financial information to support the Council’s statutory financial reporting requirements and decision making, in what is a challenging but interesting time to be working in local government. This exciting role requires being able to take a fresh approach to the way we do things and being open to question how things have been done previously.
What you will need
You will have proven experience of managing a financial services team to deliver the broad range of finance services within local government. As a Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies (CCAB) qualified accountant, you will have proven leadership qualities and good technical knowledge of local government finance.
If you think you have what it takes to be successful in this role, even if you do not meet all the essential requirements, and this advert provides you with a sense of our intended direction as a team, please apply. We would appreciate the opportunity to consider your application.
