Are you an experienced Diagnostic Radiographer with Radiation Protection supervisor experience looking for your next step in your career? We are looking for an Ionising Radiation Safety Lead to join our Medical Imaging departments where you will work across our Colchester, Ipswich Hospital and community sites.

You will play a key role in providing a high quality, safe service to our patients where you will be the Radiographic Lead in the development, implementation, compliance and review of IRR policies and procedures within the Directorate. You will also co-ordinate research across both sites.

We are busy radiography departments carrying out a wide range of examinations. We are expanding due to recent investment with new units in our hospitals, including: Essex and Suffolk Elective Orthopaedic Centre, Urgent Treatment Centres and community diagnostics centres.

Our department supports its staff to pursue academic courses and develop their careers within a supportive and friendly environment. In addition, you will be an effective senior member of the team and wider multi-professional healthcare team.

You will be an autonomous practitioner who will lead on IR(ME)R legislation and patient safety to contribute to the continuing development of radiology practice. This post is 30-37.5 hours per week, however we can accept two part time radiographers to fill the hours. This post can be offered as a 12 months secondment.

Main duties of the job:
  • To lead on IRMER legislation and patient safety within all the Medical Imaging Departments within ESNEFT.
  • To take the Radiographic lead in the development, implementation, compliance, and review of IRR and IRMER policies and procedures within Medical Imaging.
  • To promote a good working relationship between the Imaging department and Radiation Safety & Imaging Physics (RSIP).
  • To facilitate and support with radiation incident DATIX investigations, and Internal Investigations or Serious Incidents.
  • The duties and responsibilities of the post will be undertaken in accordance with the policies, procedures, and practices of ESNEFT, which the Trust may amend from time to time. The duties outlined are subject to changes, after consultation with post holder.
  • To support clinically as Radiographer within the department.
  • Authorising and performing radiographic examinations, providing direct care and a high-quality diagnostic imaging service to assist in the management of patients.

Person Specification:
  • Qualifications: Registered radiographer (Health Care Professions Council), BSc or DCR in Diagnostic Imaging, Up to date relevant RPS course.
  • Experience: Proven significant post qualification experience, Knowledge of all Diagnostic Imaging modalities, Current experience of managing a complex area of work and leading a multi-disciplinary team, Current experience of staff management in MDT working.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge and understanding of Clinical & Radiation Governance relevant to imaging and managing a modality area, Knowledge of current issues within healthcare and radiography, Evidence of Continuing Professional Development, Good, current working knowledge IR(ME)R.
