Your Role

As a Social Work Apprentice (Family Coordinator), you will work alongside qualified Social Workers to support children, young people and families by:

  • Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people.
  • Undertaking direct work with families and ensuring their voices shape all plans.
  • Assessing needs, developing effective support plans and reviewing progress.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies.
  • Keeping accurate records and applying relevant legislation, policy and guidance.

You will attend the University of Hull on a weekly basis to complete the modules of the BA Integrated Social Work Apprenticeship, with protected study days and workshops delivered by the Social Work Academy being additional learning activities.

Essential Entry Requirements

To apply, you must:

  • Be a current East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Children, Families and Schools employee with confirmed secondment approval from your manager.
  • Hold a Level 3 qualification (e.g. A Level, NVQ Level) in any subject and provide your certificate by 7 June 2026.
  • Hold a Level 2 English qualification (GCSE Grades 4–9 / A–C or recognised equivalent) with certificates provided by 7 June 2026.
  • Have experience (paid or voluntary) working with children, young people or families.
  • Hold a current driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
  • Be able to work with children and vulnerable adults with an Enhanced DBS required for both.

Additional qualities we are looking for include strong communication, the ability to build positive relationships, respect for families, awareness of personal values, and understanding of key legislation such as the Children Act 1989 and Working Together to Safeguard Children.

Travel
