The job itself
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Environmental Services, Refuse Team for a Refuse Collector on our waste collection service.
You will work within a team of refuse collection operatives assisting in the safe operation of a refuse vehicle and providing a high standard refuse collection service to the residents of the East Riding.
To collect household, industrial and commercial waste from a variety of locations e.g. domestic and commercial properties, schools etc.
Transport wheeled bins, plastic sacks or bulk containers to the refuse collection vehicle from the premise curtilage or from the back door for pre-designated properties. Then completely emptying the contents into the vehicle without causing any avoidable damage, noise or spillage. Leaving the street clear of household rubbish. Replace the bins at the property/collection point, ensuring the bin does not obstruct footpaths or entrances. You must have a willingness to cover other services within streetscene services
A suitable level of fitness is required to cope with physical demands of job, i.e. able to walk for a minimum of 5 hours a day and the dexterity to move loaded wheeled bins. With the ability to work outdoors in all weathers and able to start work early morning. Initiative, good customer care and communication skills are essential for this post.
To work overtime or weekends to catch up the refuse/recycling service after a bank holiday, due to vehicle breakdown / inclement weather or other operation pressures. On occasions, when the service dictates, you will be required to work on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank/Public Holidays for which the appropriate enhancement will be paid. There is a requirement to work between Christmas and the New Year.
The role is based at the Market Weighton depot but good local knowledge of other areas within the East Riding would be useful.
