The individual is male, 15 years old and resides in Howden. They require a dedicated and suitable person to support them due to having Down Syndrome and Autism and is non-verbal.

They like/enjoy going out into the community. He loves music, climbing, swinging and all things Elmo.

Hours of Work

26 hours per week during term time and 40 hours per week during school holidays.

The individual has a primary carer who provides regular support. 1 or 2 individuals are needed who can provide support for some weekday shifts, some weekends, and provide cover during her illness and annual leave.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for

  • Assisting with personal care.
  • Assistance with bath or shower.
  • Preparation of snacks and meals. He will require some support while eating.
  • Assisting the individual with accessing activities and spending time out in the community.
  • Attending/transporting the individual to social activities.
  • Encouraging social interaction and inclusion and providing emotional support.
  • Help with redirection or calming if he becomes dysregulated.

The suitable candidate must

  • Be motivated, proactive and able to work on their own initiative.
  • Be patient, caring and understanding.
  • Have good communication skills (clear and effective communication).
  • Be able to build a positive relationship with the individual to both encourage and support them.
  • Have previous experience supporting an individual with additional needs.
  • Be flexible to accommodate the hours of work where necessary.
  • Be a team player and able to work effectively alongside another worker (if support is 2:1).
  • Must have use of own car, to transport individual to social activities.

DBS/Reference checks will be required for this post - Cost to be met by the local authority.

Travel

Some travel across East Riding of Yorkshire may be required, applicants must be able to transport themselves.
