A Personal assistant is required for a man living near to Hedon (within 10 miles) for 37 hours per week, or 2 PA's for 18.5 hours each. This man has had speech and mobility loss, he is working with specialist teams and making good progress in learning to talk and walk again. He also has short term memory loss.
Support is required to enable this man to live more independently, supporting him with movement with the use of aids around the home. Currently he uses a manual wheelchair and is unable to self-propel so will require a personal assistant who will be able to move him when in the chair. There are plans for him to have an electric wheelchair, but this is not yet in place.
Due to his speech complications, the PA will need to be patient, understanding and speak clearly at all times. Duties will include support in holding his legs together when undertaking transfers, getting dressed, having showers or attempting to mobilise for transfers. Morning support will be needed from around 8:30-9:00 am, while evening support will be needed until around 10:00-10:30pm.
Experience in moving and handling is required. Car driver is required, with own business insurance. Car must have room for the wheelchair. The successful applicant will need to be flexible as some times may change due to appointments. Be patient as it can take time for him to adapt to new people in his home. Please specify on the application if you would prefer 37 hours per week, or 18.5 hours per week.
DBS/Reference checks will be required for this post - Cost to be met by the local authority. The Direct Payments Support Service is an in-house service provided by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council. The service promotes independent choice and inclusion, allowing our service users to employ their own care and support as needed. We support many individuals with varying abilities, assisting with advertising and recruitment for a range of roles including support workers, carers and personal assistants.
Some travel across East Riding of Yorkshire may be required, applicants must be able to transport themselves. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS clearance check.
