We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Health and Safety Officer to join our team. The team operates as a support function, upskilling and empowering services across the council and external clients, delivering high-quality occupational health and safety services.
In this role, you will provide advisory, compliance monitoring, and inspection services to stakeholders, ensuring risks are minimised and the Council operates within legislative requirements, regulations, and codes of practice. You will offer expert advice on health and safety legislation and statutory frameworks to stakeholders.
You will conduct a program of audits to ensure compliance, compile detailed reports with findings, lessons learned, and future requirements. The role involves collaborating with managers to investigate accidents or incidents; therefore, strong communication and stakeholder influence skills are essential.
You will collate and analyse data from audits, inspections, and reports to inform future activity planning, and assist in reviewing and updating health & safety policies, procedures, and guidelines. Additionally, you will support employee wellbeing, direct managers to appropriate resources, share good practices and specialist knowledge with team members, and undertake special projects as directed by the Senior Health and Safety Officers and Occupational Health and Safety Manager.
Candidates must have a NEBOSH Level 6 qualification, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with team members and stakeholders. Current knowledge of health & safety regulatory requirements, legislation, frameworks, and policies is essential, along with an understanding of relevant national and regional policies and legislation related to health and safety. Knowledge in a specialist area such as noise, construction, vibration, legionella, etc., is desirable, as is membership of a relevant professional body.
