Lelley Fields, East Riding of Yorkshire Council's first owned and operated crematorium is situated in the heart of the Holderness area. Our facility offers people a fitting and sensitive place to commemorate their loved ones, with features including two service halls, waiting rooms, wild meadows, memory walk and other areas for remembrance and celebration.
Lelley Fields is looking for a dependable and proactive individual to join the team as a Crematorium Caretaker. This is an important role in helping us provide a clean, safe, and respectful environment for our community at a time when it matters most.
You will play a key part in maintaining high standards across the crematorium, ensuring the site is consistently clean, well-presented, and welcoming for visitors. Alongside this, you will support the safe and compliant running of the site by carrying out routine checks and monitoring activities linked to health and safety.
The role combines cleaning, caretaking, and general site duties, with responsibility for the day-to-day upkeep, security, and smooth operation of the buildings and grounds. Acting as a custodian of the site, you will take ownership of standards, respond to issues, and help ensure everything remains safe, secure, and in good working order.
You will also interact with members of the public and support colleagues and contractors as needed. This is a hands-on, varied role that requires flexibility at times, including participation in standby or call-out arrangements. Full training and support will be provided, particularly around health and safety responsibilities and compliance.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organised environment. You will be reliable, practical, and consistent in your approach, with a strong focus on cleaning standards and safety checks.
Experience in cleaning, caretaking, or building maintenance would be useful, but isn't essential. What matters most is your attention to detail, willingness to follow procedures, and ability to carry out routine tasks accurately, particularly those linked to health and safety.
You should be comfortable taking ownership of responsibilities such as safety checks, record keeping, and spotting potential hazards, dealing with issues proactively where possible. Being organised, dependable, and able to manage your workload is important.
As the role involves contact with members of the public, often at sensitive times, you will need to be approachable, respectful, and considerate. You should also work well with others while being confident using your initiative.
Above all, we are looking for someone reliable, with good timekeeping and a genuine commitment to maintaining high standards. If you think you have enthusiasm, compassion, and sensitivity to work in this unique environment and provide an exceptional service to all crematorium visitors, we would love to hear from you.
