This is an external vacancy and is not employment with East Riding of Yorkshire Council. A young lady is looking for a Personal Assistant to assist her with everyday tasks and support her independence while ensuring she is safe from harm. The lady has autism and also suffers from anxiety and depression. She has been home-schooled since the COVID-19 pandemic. She is sensitive to light, heat, and wetness. She does not cope well in loud places and gets tired easily. She struggles to wake up in the morning and requires prompts to do regular daily activities like brushing her teeth, having breakfast, or taking medication. She avoids crowded places and prefers to be indoors.

Role will involve:

  • Supporting her to learn life skills, e.g. preparing meals and tidying.
  • Enabling her to engage in physical activities.
  • Taking her out socially to activities, for example visiting the pet/rescue centre.
  • Supporting her to become independent, such as travelling on public transport or shopping.
  • Overall supporting her to become more independent and take care of herself.

The person needs to be compassionate and understanding of the young lady's difficulties due to her diagnosis. Necessary skills to work with autistic individuals or people with mental health struggles are preferred but not essential. DBS/reference checks will be required for this post, with the cost to be met by the local authority.
