A Personal assistant is required for a man living near Hedon (within 10 miles) for 37 hours per week, or two PAs each for 18.5 hours per week. The person has speech and mobility loss, is working with specialist teams, and is making good progress in learning to talk and walk again. He also has short‑term memory loss.

Support is required to enable him to live more independently, supporting him with movement using aids around the home. He currently uses a manual wheelchair and is unable to self‑propel, so a PA who can move him in the chair is needed. There are plans for an electric wheelchair, but this is not yet in place.

Because of his speech complications, the PA must be patient, understanding and speak clearly at all times.

Duties include:

  • Supporting him with transfers, holding his legs together during transfers, dressing, showering, and mobilising for transfers.
  • Providing morning support from approximately 8:30‑9:00 am and evening support until approximately 10:00‑10:30 pm.
  • Experience in moving and handling is required.
  • A car driver with own business insurance and a vehicle large enough to accommodate the wheelchair is also required.
  • The successful applicant must be flexible, as times may change due to appointments.
  • Patience is essential, as he may take time to adapt to new people in his home.

Please specify on the application whether you prefer 37 hours per week or 18.5 hours per week. DBS/Reference checks will be required for this post – cost to be met by the local authority.
