This is an exciting opportunity to join our Special Educational Needs and Disability Assessment and Review Team (SENDART) on a fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave. We are committed to promoting high aspirations and expectations for children and young people with SEND, and we are now seeking a like-minded individual to support the growing number of children, young people (0–25), and families across the East Riding.
As part of this role, you will support the statutory annual review process for Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans, ensuring the delivery of a timely, high-quality service that secures the best possible outcomes for children and young people with SEND. We are seeking a dedicated, organised, and resilient individual with excellent communication skills to join SENDART as an Assistant Education, Health and Care Officer (AEHCO). Working within a busy, fast-paced team, you will collaborate closely with Education Health Care Officers (EHCOs), educational settings, a range of professionals, and families to ensure the effective delivery of EHC plan annual reviews within statutory timescales.
Working alongside Senior EHCOs, you will lead the coordination of annual review activity within a designated geographical area. You will ensure that educational settings have the information, guidance, and support needed to hold high-quality annual reviews, and that all contributions meet statutory requirements.
This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships. Strong interpersonal skills are essential. You will work with a degree of autonomy and be expected to take a proactive approach to problem solving and service improvement—always with a focus on achieving the best outcomes for children and young people with SEND.
You will be educated to A Level standard (or equivalent), preferably in a relevant field, and have experience working with children or young people with SEND and their families. You will also have experience supporting families through difficult or sensitive situations. Ideally, you will have a good working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice 2015—particularly Chapter 9—or be willing to develop this knowledge upon starting the role.
This post is offered at Grade 5b on a fixed-term basis for up to 1 year. We offer blended working arrangements, including home working alongside some office-based hours. The Council offers many remote working opportunities as part of our commitment to providing flexibility wherever possible for our employees. Some travel across East Riding of Yorkshire may be required, applicants must be able to transport themselves. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS clearance check.
