The job itself

Do you have an interest and enthusiasm for highways and civil engineering and could you provide the technical support on all activities relating to the effective running of the Highways Service? Then this could be the job for you.

The Apprentice Technical Assistant (Highways) offers the opportunity to learn about all aspects of Highway Maintenance, directly from a team of friendly professional staff who have a wealth of experience.

We are keen to support our Apprentices with practical on the job training, to help develop their skills, knowledge and experience with the aim being to get a permanent role with the Council, as many previous Apprentices have.

This is a 3 year fixed term role with 2 posts available, one in Market Weighton and one in Beverley (please state your preference on the application form) working 37 hours per week. On offer is a starting salary of Β£17,908.80 per annum if under 21 years of age and Β£25,584 if 21 or over, starting at the beginning of September 2025.

This is a structured training role and day release to college (one day /week) will be required at Leeds College of Building, with formal training to be undertaken to work towards a Level 3 Civil Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard.

You must hold 5 GCSEs including English, Maths and a Science at a minimum of grade 4 or equivalent (or predicted).
