This apprenticeship gives you hands-on experience, professional guidance and the chance to work on major, high-profile infrastructure schemes while completing the Level 3 Civil Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who:

  • Has GCSEs including Maths, English and a Science subject at grade 4/C or above.
  • Has a good level of IT skills and strong mathematical ability.
  • Shows enthusiasm for civil engineering and enjoys learning in a practical, hands-on environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the development of engineering projects by preparing drawings, designs and technical documentation under supervision.
  • Observing and assisting engineers to build your skills across a range of technical tasks.
  • Inputting and checking data, maintaining accurate project information and records.
  • Assisting with surveys, basic calculations, risk assessments and technical studies.
  • Helping with project administration to ensure tasks are delivered on time and to standard.

It is not essential that you have worked for a Council or the public sector previously, as appropriate mentoring and training will be provided. The Council offers several benefits, including a generous pension scheme and leave allowance, various flexible working options and access to appropriate further training and education. This includes a training agreement with the Institution of Civil Engineers to coordinate both the academic and practical training leading to a professional qualification: EngTech MICE.
