Ambulance Care Assistant (Bank) - Bedford

We operate a 24 hour, 7 day a week service for our patients. The hours/shifts vary dependent on the location, and as part of the role of an Ambulance Care Assistant (ACA), there will be a requirement to cover out of hours shifts on a relief rota basis.

We are currently looking for enthusiastic and passionate Ambulance Care Assistants to transport our patients, who are frail or need specialist assistance, to and from appointments at hospitals, treatment centres and other similar facilities. If you have experience of caring for people with proven customer care and communication skills with the public, then we would like to hear from you! A good sense of humour and local knowledge of the area you are applying to work in will also be an advantage.

Every day is different as an ACA and you could really make a difference to our patients. The base location is Bedford, covering the North Bedfordshire area.

The role of the Ambulance Care Assistant involves the transportation of non-urgent patients to and from health/social care premises and private residences. This is a responsible role which requires a professional and caring attitude, as well as teamwork. You will work in a team of two, or on your own, undertaking duties in a variety of vehicle types.

You need a full UK manual car driving licence, with at least one year’s driving experience and a maximum of 6 points for SP30 driving offences. Your role with EEAST PTS would start with a 3 week paid training course (Monday – Friday). The training involves clinical training to be a ‘First Person on Scene’ and patient transport driver training. The first 2 weeks training will be held in Welwyn Garden City. Driver training location will be advised. You MUST be able to commit to undertaking the full three week training course as outlined above.

You are required to hold a full UK manual driving licence with 1 year driving experience (a maximum of 3 penalty points for minor motoring offences will be considered). During the 3 week training course, it is your responsibility to attend in full, on each day. Accommodation and travel expenses will not be provided.

As a Healthcare worker, you will be subject to Immunisations which will be checked through Occupational Health and boosters provided as required.

All references from current and previous employers will be sought via their Human Resources Department and must cover a minimum of 3 years employment. All appointments will be subject to currently having a clean disciplinary record.
