Overview

The role of the Ambulance Care Assistant involves the transportation of non-urgent patients to and from health/social care premises and private residences. This is a responsible role which requires a professional and caring attitude, as well as teamwork. You will work in a team of two, or on your own, undertaking duties in a variety of vehicle types. You will start with a 3 week paid training course (Monday – Friday). The training involves clinical training to be a \’First Person on Scene\’, patient transport driver training, and a full uniform is provided. During the training course it is your responsibility to attend in full, on each day. Accommodation and travel expenses will not be provided so you will need to consider the costs and travel expense of attending these venues (usually Welwyn Garden City & Barton Mills). You must be able to commit to undertaking the training course as outlined above.

Responsibilities

  • Daily check of vehicle and equipment. Top-up, replenish and clean as required, reporting/logging deficiencies to Liaison Manager/Supervisor to ensure compliance with operational and legal requirements.
  • Clean ambulance parking bay and assist with station duties ensuring the premises are left in a safe and secure condition.
  • As soon as is practical, but no later than 24 hours, report vehicle accidents/incidents to the Liaison Office or EOC, ensuring the requirements of the Road Traffic Act are complied with.
  • Ensure vehicle and contents are left in a secure condition at all times.
  • Ensure that at all times whilst operating the vehicle legislative requirements (e.g. use of mobile phones) are complied with.

Requirements

  • Full UK manual car driving licence, with one year’s driving experience.
  • A maximum of 3 penalty points will be considered for a minor motoring offence.
  • Flexible, adaptable, discreet, with a good sense of humour and local knowledge of the area you are applying to work in is an advantage.
  • Experience of caring for people with proven customer care and communication skills with the public is desirable.
  • You must be able to commit to the 3 week training course as outlined above and be prepared to work in a patient transport environment.

We are currently looking for enthusiastic and passionate Ambulance Care Assistants to transport our patients, who are frail or need specialist assistance, to and from appointments at hospitals, treatment centres and other similar facilities. If you have experience of caring for people with proven customer care and communication skills with the public, then we would like to hear from you! You will need to be flexible, adaptable, and at times, discreet. A good sense of humour and local knowledge of the area you are applying to work in will also be an advantage.
