Most of our Platform Assistants work full time at 37 hours per week over a 4-day working week, with early starts from 4 am and late finishes around midnight.
We pride ourselves on delivering an excellent customer experience through our customer promise, and our Platform Assistants play an important role at the station. They are the main point of contact for customers, providing queries and advice, and are Safety Critical staff responsible for dispatching trains from the platform.
As a Platform Assistant, you will:
- Ensure the safe and prompt dispatch of all train services at Nottingham station
- Help customers navigate the station, directing them to relevant platforms
- Assist passengers boarding and alighting trains, including vulnerable customers requiring extra support
- Support security searches at the station
- Remain proactive and visible to customers
- Act as an ambassador for EMR, providing outstanding customer service and going above and beyond for our customers
The key focus is to maintain high visibility and awareness at the station. We seek candidates with a proactive, ‘can-do’ attitude.
During disruptions and busy periods, our Platform Assistants must think quickly and act swiftly while maintaining excellent customer service. The role requires flexibility to work shifts from early morning to late at night, based on a rota.
At Nottingham station, earliest shift start is 05:00, and latest shift end is 23:15; candidates must be able to attend work during these times.
This role is safety critical. Successful candidates will need to undertake a safety critical medical assessment, including drugs and alcohol screening. Employment is contingent upon passing this assessment.
No prior railway industry experience is required; all safety-critical training is provided, including classroom instruction and on-station mentoring. We seek hardworking, proactive, and positive individuals to join our team.
