At East Midlands Railway (EMR), we keep over 30 million passengers moving safely every year, and we’re looking for an Operational Standards & Compliance Manager to play a critical role in making that happen. This is more than a compliance role. It’s an opportunity to lead, influence and set the standard for operational safety across a major UK rail operator.
The Opportunity
As our Professional Head of Operational Standards, you’ll take ownership of operational safety frameworks and ensure our Safety Management System (SMS) remains robust, compliant, and forward-thinking. You’ll work at the heart of the business, shaping standards, influencing senior stakeholders, and representing EMR across the wider rail industry.
The role
- Lead operational safety standards and validation across EMR
- Own and drive the audit & risk assurance programme
- Ensure compliance with SMS, legislation, and industry standards
- Oversee competence management and train driver licensing assurance
- Manage the compliance register and embed changes effectively
- Represent EMR at industry and Network Rail forums
Key Requirements
- Proven experience in operational safety leadership within a safety-critical environment (rail highly desirable)
- Strong expertise in risk, compliance, and operational change
- Confident communicator with the ability to influence at all levels
- Deep understanding of safety legislation and industry standards
