Derbyshire County Council is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team as Relief Catering Assistants. This role involves assisting with the preparation and serving of meals across various locations in Derby, Ashbourne, Wirksworth, Belper and Heanor Area. As a Relief Catering Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our children receive nutritious and well‑prepared meals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Food Preparation and Cooking: May consist of assisting in the basic preparation of food and simple cooking tasks. This includes washing, peeling, chopping, and cooking ingredients as directed by the lead role in the kitchen.
  • Meal Service: Serve meals to children, ensuring correct portion control and presentation. You will be responsible for making sure that each child receives the appropriate amount of food and that the meals are served in an appealing manner.
  • Dining Area Setup: Prepare the dining area by setting up and dismantling dining furniture. This includes arranging tables and chairs, ensuring the area is clean and ready for meal service.
  • Cleaning Duties: Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen and surrounding areas. This involves cleaning dining furniture, kitchen equipment, and ensuring that all areas meet the set hygiene standards.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with food hygiene and health and safety regulations at all times. This includes following proper procedures for food storage, handling, and preparation to prevent contamination and ensure the safety of the children.
  • Team Collaboration: Work as part of a team to ensure smooth operation of the kitchen and dining area. This includes communicating effectively with other team members and supporting each other in daily tasks.
