St Mary’s Catholic High School are looking for a motivated, competent, and enthusiastic Caretaker to become a valued member of our friendly and hardworking caretaking team. Although previous experience of working in a school setting would be desirable, full training will be provided. You will be required to undertake a variety of security, janitorial and DIY duties within a busy secondary school, helping to ensure that the site remains a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors. As a key member of our operational team, you will play a proactive role in the health, safety, and overall comfort of everyone on site.

Qualifications and Responsibilities

  • Able to demonstrate a sense of responsibility and take pride in maintaining high standards of safety and presentation across the school site.
  • A team player, able to work collaboratively and flexibly, communicating effectively with the Site Manager to ensure continuity and consistency.
  • Able to liaise confidently with staff, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • IT literate and able to manage systems and documentation related to site management and compliance.
  • Proactive and capable of responding to day‑to‑day maintenance needs, as well as planning ahead for longer‑term site improvements.

The term time working hours for the position are:

  • Monday: 6.00 am to 1.30 pm
  • Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: 8.00 am to 4.00 pm
  • Friday: 6.00 am to 2.00 pm (A 30‑minute unpaid break is included each day).

During school holidays the working hours will be 8.00 am to 4.00 pm each day. On occasions earlier or later hours and weekend work may be required where overtime will be paid at time and a half on Saturday and double time on a Sunday. You will also be required to attend out‑of‑hour alarm calls on an occasional basis.
