The opportunity has arisen for a teacher of girls' PE within our successful, enthusiastic and talented PE department. Highfields is a vibrant and popular school with approximately 1300 students, including 200 in our sixth form. Our students are friendly and highly motivated.

Highfields are proud to be a part of East Midlands Education Trust (EMET), a partnership of schools whose mission is to raise the educational standards and improve the life chances of all the children within our Trust. Our schools are high performing schools who represent the full age range of 3-19, along with an alternative education provider, and we place great emphasis on collaborative working across the Trust within a family of schools approach. Our schools enjoy a high degree of ‘aligned autonomy’ whilst, at the same time, they are supported by a central trust team who help ensure our schools provide the highest quality of provision possible.

PE is a thriving part of our school. We offer GCSE PE and the BTech Tech Award in sport as well as BTech National Level 3 at post 16. The curriculum is rich and challenging and focuses on building students’ enjoyment and interest along with the knowledge and skills required for examination success. We also run the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and capacity to provide some training and input regarding this would be desirable.

For a September start, we are looking for an outstanding practitioner. The successful candidate will be resourceful, inspirational and forward thinking. You will share our vision of achieving excellence and raising further the standards of teaching and learning. There is the potential of Full time hours if candidates are offering an additional subject.

We wish to appoint a colleague to this post who has:

  • A strong background in teaching PE/Sport, ideally including experience of teaching to A level
  • A passion for teaching, and a track record as a highly effective classroom practitioner
  • The ability to inspire and motivate students and colleagues to achieve their best
  • Highly effective interpersonal, communication, management and leadership skills
  • A commitment to professional development
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Highfields is situated in Matlock, the county town of Derbyshire, on the south eastern edge of the beautiful Peak District National Park. It is within easy reach of Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham.

On the application form, please focus on a detailed 'supporting statement' taking into account the person specification and indicating why you would be the best person for us to recruit to this position.

If you would like further information and require an informal conversation or visit, please telephone or email our school office via 01629 584020 or info@highfields.derbyshire.sch.uk

The successful candidate will have to meet the requirements of the person specification in order to be offered the post, will be required to undergo a full enhanced DBS check and must be eligible to work in the UK. The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Safeguarding checks will be undertaken during the recruitment process and this may include online searches.

We welcome applications regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or religion.

Closing date for applications is 12:00PM on Thursday 16th April 2026. Interviews are expected to be held shortly after closing date.
