We have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Health Officer to join our small but busy Regulation Team which deals with Food Hygiene, Public Health, Health and Safety, and Animal Welfare Licensing.

Amber Valley is an attractive area in the heart of Derbyshire on the edge of the Peak District National Park and close to the lively cities of Nottingham and Derby. We are looking for an enthusiastic professional who enjoys a challenge and has a proven competency in food hygiene and is willing to continue their development with us. The post will also offer development in the fields of health and safety and animal welfare.

You will need to demonstrate a strong sense of self‐motivation, be a competent communicator and be capable of taking responsibility for your individual work targets. If you enjoy interacting with a diverse range of businesses, then you will enjoy Amber Valley. Our businesses range from major manufacturers to smaller domestic based enterprises and everything in between. The opportunity to develop and fine tune your regulatory skills will be plentiful. We encourage our officers to have a broad competency across all the team's disciplines thereby giving plenty of chances to expand your knowledge and skills.

Applications are invited from those who hold a certificate of registration with EHRB / CIEH Register of Practitioners and recent experience of conducting food hygiene interventions of A to E rated businesses, together with health and safety enforcement in a local government setting. Animal welfare licensing enforcement and accident investigation experience is also desirable.

Due to the nature of the role, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the post holder to meet a certain level of physical fitness. This is necessary to safely and effectively carry out duties such as accessing and inspecting a range of premises, walking across uneven terrain, standing for extended periods, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs or ladders in varied weather conditions. This requirement is a proportionate means of achieving the legitimate aim of ensuring public and employee safety and service delivery.

A full driving licence is required, and the starting salary will be dependent on relevant experience, skill set, and qualifications held. Those invited for interview will be requested to provide a draft or confirmation of their current competency matrix as outlined in the Food Law Code of Practice.

For an informal discussion please contact Julia Cope, Regulation Manager on 01773 841341 or email julia.cope@ambervalley.gov.uk

In addition, we can offer:

  • Casual user car allowance and free office car parking.
  • Flexible working hours and hybrid working opportunities.
  • Personal and professional development.
  • Access to the local government pension scheme.

To apply, please visit Amber Valley Borough Council's website at: www.ambervalley.gov.uk/jobs. CVs are not accepted. Candidates must possess the necessary right to work authorisation to enable them to work for Amber Valley Borough Council. Regrettably, we are unable to provide sponsorship or assume sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.
