Help Shape the Future of Public Transport. We are looking for an ambitious and experienced professional to join us as Principal Officer – Ticketing, playing a leading part in developing and delivering integrated ticketing solutions that will transform how people travel across the East Midlands. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering a customer-focused, region-wide ticketing strategy that supports a modern, seamless and accessible public transport network.

Working closely with transport operators, local authorities, suppliers and strategic partners, you will help shape innovative ticketing systems using smart technologies including contactless payments, smartcards, mobile ticketing and integrated journey planning tools.

About the Role

  • Lead the creation and implementation of a regional integrated ticketing strategy.
  • Drive the development of multi-operator ticketing systems and supporting infrastructure.
  • Deliver innovative ticketing products and schemes that improve passenger experience and accessibility.
  • Build strong partnerships with transport operators, local authorities and wider stakeholders.
  • Manage supplier relationships and contracts to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Support funding bids, business cases and investment opportunities for future enhancements.
  • Oversee financial planning, procurement and governance activities linked to ticketing programmes.
  • Monitor performance and use data-driven insights to support continuous improvement.
  • Champion innovation and emerging technologies across the transport network.

Where applicable, you will also provide leadership and support to team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience creating and implementing integrated ticketing strategies or systems.
  • Previous experience working within ticketing, transport technology or smart mobility environments.
  • Strong skills in delivering products, projects or schemes from concept through to implementation.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Proven experience working within the transport sector.
  • Experience managing complex technology or smart infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of UK transport policy, planning regulations and funding mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with smartcard and digital ticketing technologies and transport ticketing legislation.
  • Experience working within or alongside local government or transport authorities.
  • Degree qualification in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Chartered status (e.g. CILT).
