Legal Support Officer in Chesterfield

Chesterfield Full-Time On-site
E

Grade: E14 | Directorate: Legal & Governance

Reports to: Legal Practice Manager

About the role

The East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) is building a new organisation with an ambitious vision for the East Midlands — making our region more prosperous, sustainable and fairer. We are looking for an organised, proactive and digitally confident Legal Support Officer to join our Legal & Governance team. This is a varied role providing essential administrative, operational and digital support to the Legal Practice Manager and General Counsel. You'll help ensure our Legal Services function operates efficiently, with effective systems, processes and workflows in place. You'll also play a key role as a super user for Legal Services systems, helping colleagues use technology effectively and identifying opportunities to improve processes and ways of working.

What you'll do

You'll:

  • Support the effective day-to-day delivery of Legal Services.
  • Manage and improve administrative systems, processes and workflows.
  • Act as a super user for the Legal Case Management system, supporting users, access, permissions, troubleshooting and system improvements.
  • Coordinate the Legal Inbox and instructions process, including triage, allocation and workflow monitoring.
  • Manage contracts, agreements, signing and sealing processes.
  • Support recruitment, induction, training, starters and leavers.
  • Maintain accurate records, spreadsheets and tracking systems to support performance and legal spend monitoring.
  • Support financial and administrative processes across the service.
  • Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes and data quality.
  • Handle sensitive information with discretion and ensure issues and risks are appropriately escalated.

About you

We're looking for someone who is highly organised, customer-focused and able to manage competing priorities effectively.

You’ll have:

  • Experience managing administrative systems, processes and workflows.
  • Excellent communication, coordination and organisational skills.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • An understanding of governance, data protection, FOI and IT security.
  • The ability to manage your own time, prioritise workload and work independently.
  • A professional and discreet approach when handling sensitive information.

Experience of working in a legal environment or using a legal case management system would be desirable, as would experience of local government, contracts, finance or onboarding processes.

You will have GCSE Maths and English at Grade 5 or above and an NVQ Level 4 or equivalent Business Administration qualification and/or relevant experience.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a new organisation and help build a modern Legal Services function from the ground up.

You’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills, work with senior colleagues and make a real difference to the systems and processes that support the delivery of legal services across the Authority.

Our values are at the heart of everything we do:

Lifting our region | Working together | Making an impact | Being human

If you’re organised, proactive and enjoy making systems work, solving problems and helping people, we’d love to hear from you.
