The successful candidate for this post will be placed at Point 3 of the advertised salary scale, currently £37,465 per annum.

Days and Hours of Work: Monday - Friday, working times to be confirmed. Flexi time is applicable, and starting and finishing times are flexible. To start asap.

About the Role: We have an exciting opportunity for a Roads Officer to join our Roads Services team. We are seeking a self-motivated individual with experience in road design, inspection, and maintenance. You will play a key role in maintaining the quality and standards of East Lothian's roads and related infrastructure. Responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out topographical surveys and inspections
  • Preparing designs and CAD drawings
  • Producing contract documentation using the NEC suite
  • Fulfilling CDM (2015) designer duties, including pre-construction information
  • Assessing, prioritising, and preparing work orders
  • Supervising works on-site by internal teams or external contractors to ensure compliance with contract requirements and best practice

The ideal candidate will be confident, with strong verbal and written communication skills, and able to build effective working relationships quickly. IT proficiency is essential, as digital technology is integral to the role. You will work within a multidisciplinary technical team and engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including non-technical audiences and the public.

Job Details: To support the delivery and development of the full range of duties within Road services, maximising efficiency of service delivery within specific standards and approved budgets and in compliance with the Council's obligations as the local Roads Authority and its policies and plans with a commitment to achieve best value.

Job Requirements: Relevant Qualifications: Educated to HNC/SVQ Level 2 in Civil Engineering or related discipline and/or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience.

Driving Licence: As the duties of this role require you to effectively travel to successfully undertake the full remit of the role, you must hold a current driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
