East Lothian Council is keen to continue its tradition of harnessing and developing the talent of young people in the local area and as such are looking to recruit 2 Apprentice Mechanics. These apprenticeships are restricted to applicants who currently live in the East Lothian Area and are aged between 16 and 24 years of age (this is extended to applicants up to 29 years of age who have a disability, are from a care-experienced background, or are registered as a young carer with East Lothian Council). All candidates indicating in their application that they are from a care-experienced background, are a young carer or have a disability are guaranteed an interview if they meet the minimum essential criteria required for the job (as per the Person Specification).
Applicants should have achieved 3 National 4 or 5's or 3 Standard Grades at credit/general level (1-4) including English, Maths and one other subject. Proof of the qualifications will be required from those called to interview. The apprenticeship will run for 3 years and during this period the successful applicant will attend GTG Edinburgh to attain the qualification applicable to this trade. Applicants should be able to demonstrate commitment to their own learning and show that they are keen to become a qualified mechanic.
