The predicted salary is between 48396 - 57000 £ per year.

Hourly rate of pay: £25.21 - £28.15. The successful candidate for this post will be placed at a minimum of Point 3 of the advertised salary scale, currently £48,396 per annum. A higher placement is possible depending on relevant transferable experience.

Days and Hours of Work: Monday - Friday. Days of working are negotiable, starting and finishing times are flexible, and flexi time is applicable. To start April 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Roads professional to play a lead role in the development of the County and to join East Lothian Council's Roads Services. With an HND / SVQ4 or above in Civil or Transportation Engineering or Traffic Planning or an equivalent discipline, you will have significant knowledge and experience in coordinating works, transportation planning and completing statutory registers.

You will assist in the transportation planning process, analysing data and models and developing solutions to meet Council wide transport objectives. We are looking for a self-motivated individual who will lead a small team to work with a variety of partners, customers, and clients on the delivery of a professional service that maximises resources and delivers positive outcomes.

You will be business and customer focused with a demonstrable record of identifying opportunities, achieving outcomes, managing change, and exercising strong leadership skills. You will be self-motivated with a flexible and collaborative approach to work and have the ability to cope with multiple and changing demands whilst meeting tight deadlines.

You will also have a good understanding and knowledge of transportation policy, legislation, and initiatives at local, regional, and national levels. With excellent organisational and IT skills, you will be able to utilise various Microsoft Office packages, and be a clear written and verbal communicator, with the ability to analyse information and produce reports and with experience of presenting information in public forums.

You will be joining a dynamic and flexible team within Infrastructure and Transportation. You will be required to travel throughout East Lothian to undertake the duties of this post.

Employees with a hybrid working arrangement in place will be office based and able to work from home, with permission, on an ad hoc basis.

Job Details: To assist in the delivery and development of the full range of Road services, maximising efficiency of service delivery within specific standards and approved budgets and in compliance with the Council’s obligations as the local Roads Authority and its policies and plans with a commitment to achieve best value.

Job Requirements:

  • Relevant Qualifications: Educated to HND/SVQ Level 4 in Civil Engineering or related discipline and/or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience.
  • Driving Licence: As the duties of this role require you to effectively travel to successfully undertake the full remit of the role, you must hold a current driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
