Hourly rate of pay: £18.70 - £20.91

Days And Hours Of Work: Monday - Friday, 09:00-17:00. Days of work are negotiable, flexi time is applicable, and starting and finishing times are flexible. To start 21st July 2025. This post is being advertised as a permanent post.

The successful candidate will be a key contributor to East Lothian Works, the council's employability service, and will work across our schools and post-school teams. The Project Officer (Employer Engagement) will build and maintain relationships with local employers to encourage them to collaborate and work with our employability service. The role will focus on identifying and contacting new prospective employers, working with existing employer contacts, and liaising internally with colleagues to maximise success.

The Key Objectives:

  • Grow and retain a range of employer relationships.
  • Generate new leads for employment, training, placements and work taster commitments by contacting prospective employers, developing understanding of their challenges and motivations, establishing mutually acceptable arrangements, and securing employment opportunities.
  • Support employers to understand and develop inclusive recruitment practices.
  • Provide a proactive and professional account management approach.
  • Act as the main point of contact for new and existing employers as well as other key external stakeholders.
  • Supporting performance within our employability service.

The individual will be solution focussed, proactive, and have a passion for delivering innovative employability provision. They will have the ability to see and act on opportunities, be organised, be an able communicator and facilitator. The successful candidate will work at pace and manage a variety of competing priorities. Home / Hybrid Working Consideration:

All applicants must live in the UK and will be expected to attend Council offices from time to time as required.

Job Details:

To support the ongoing development of employer engagement specifically relating to employability and core skills intervention programmes within East Lothian. This post will work across the wider East Lothian Works service to identify employer engagement opportunities to complement and add value to our programmes, and client(s) group.

This is, in accordance with National Priorities, East Lothian's One Council Approach, the Local Economy Strategy, the East Lothian Plan, the Single Outcome Agreement, the measurable outcomes detailed in the Education Service Plan and the Scotland's Literacies Curriculum Framework Guidelines; learning, teaching and assessment.

Job Requirements:

  • Relevant Qualifications: Educated to Degree level or equivalent in Sales & Marketing, Business, Education, Community Learning, Employability and/or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through previous experience.
  • Evidence of engagement in continued professional development and lifelong learning.
  • Driving Licence: As the duties of this role require you to effectively travel to successfully undertake the full remit of the role, you must hold a current driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
  • PVG Membership: This post is considered as a Regulated Role with vulnerable children and/or protected adults. All preferred candidates for posts carrying out regulated work with these groups will be required to become a PVG Scheme member, or undergo a PVG Scheme update if they are already a member, prior to any formal offer of employment being made by East Lothian Council.
