East Lothian Council seek to appoint a dynamic and forward-thinking individual for the position of Teacher of Chemistry, at Rosehill High School. Our school opened in August 2023, to around 300 young people. By August 2026, this will have expanded to over 700, with our first year of a full school, S1-S6.
The new secondary learning facility is designed to support creative approaches to pedagogy, with a range of adaptive teaching spaces. Alongside up to date and digitally enabled classrooms, there is a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) plaza, a Learning Resource Centre, extensive facilities to support the arts, and a state of the art sport and leisure complex. Learning and teaching on the campus goes beyond the traditional classroom and encompasses outdoor learning and sustainability. The campus also includes a number of community and health spaces to support collaboration between a range of professionals and sectors.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate that they can:
- Deliver consistently high quality learning, teaching and assessment through inclusive pedagogical approaches
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to drive forward school improvement with an evidence-based mindset and awareness of educational theory and research
- Contribute to an exciting and challenging curriculum which demonstrates coherence and progression, and meets the needs of all learners
- Exhibit the interpersonal skills required to play a full part in safeguarding and nurturing young people offering the right balance of challenge and support
- Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional learning with a focus on improving outcomes for young people

Teaching relevant subject through S1-S6. Subject to the policies of the school and the education authority the duties of teachers, promoted and unpromoted, are to perform such tasks as the Head Teacher shall direct having reasonable regard to overall teacher workload related to the following categories:
- Teaching assigned classes together with associated preparation and correction
- Developing the school curriculum
- Assessing, recording and reporting on the work of pupils
- Preparing pupils for examinations and assisting with their administration
- Providing advice and guidance to pupils on issues related to their education
- Promoting and safeguarding the health, welfare and safety of pupils
- Working in partnership with parents, support staff and other professionals
- Undertaking appropriate and agreed continuing professional development
- Participating in issues related to school planning, raising achievement and individual review
- Contributing towards good order and the wider needs of the school

Please Note - Pay arrangements for those starting after 1st day of school session: In accordance with Teachers Conditions of Service (SNCT - Appendix 2.19), Teachers who commence employment with East Lothian Council after the first day of the school session will have their salary for the remainder of the school salary year (which runs from 1 August to 31 July each year), recalculated to reflect how teachers accrue leave and pay. In these circumstances, a calculation will be carried out upon commencement of employment and leave and pay will be adjusted. Further information will be provided to the successful candidate should this be applicable.
