The predicted salary is between 30000 - 40000 £ per year.

The salary advertised is full time (35 hours per week). Part-time hours will be pro-rated accordingly.

Hourly rate of pay: £20.13 - £22.51

Days and Hours of Work: Monday - Wednesday, 09:00-17:00. Starting and finishing times are flexible, and flexi time is applicable. To start asap.

The Reader Services Librarian - Adult supports public libraries across East Lothian to contribute towards literacy, attainment, and wellbeing through the selection, maintenance, and promotion of a diverse, engaging, and inclusive reading offer for adults including physical and digital stock and library-based activities.

Alongside their qualification, the successful candidate will have knowledge of and a passion for literature. As the lead for the annual summer reading challenge and part of the wider libraries team, you'll also have a commitment to creatively engaging children and young people in reading for pleasure ensuring that they have involvement in shaping our service.

The successful candidate will have line management responsibility and as such must have experience of supervising staff. They will also have responsibility for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our catalogue records, so should therefore have experience of working with a high degree of attention to detail.

Employees with a hybrid working arrangement in place will be office based and able to work from home, with permission, on an ad hoc basis.

  • Manage the selection of physical and electronic public library stock for adults across East Lothian, reflecting and promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion for all.
  • Co-ordinate and oversee the cataloguing of materials within recognised international standards.

Job Requirements:

  • Relevant Qualifications: Degree level qualification or equivalent in Librarianship or Information Science and/or postgraduate qualification in Librarianship or Information Science and be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience.
  • A full current driving licence is desirable for this post.
  • This role requires Level 1 Disclosure Clearance to allow access to the Public Sector Network. ELC will submit a Police Act Disclosure application on behalf of the preferred candidate and receipt of the subsequent certificate will be required prior to commencement.
