The predicted salary is between 25000 - 30000 £ per year.

The salary advertised is full time (35 hours per week, 52 weeks per year). Part-time hours / sessional posts will be pro-rated accordingly.

Hourly rate of pay: £14.09 - £15.14. This is a 39-week sessional post i.e., working hours will be during school term time plus in-service days.

Days and hours of work: Monday - Friday, working through school hours, to be confirmed with successful candidates. To start 11th August 2025.

East Lothian Council seek to appoint a positive, resilient and inclusive individual for the position of Additional Support Needs, at Rosehill High School, on the Wallyford Learning Campus. Our S1-S4 school roll currently sits at around 480 and includes 28 young people in our severe and complex needs provision, The Brae. Extensive new housing in the area means that our population will continue to expand rapidly. We started our senior phase in August 2024 and look forward to expanding into S5 and S6 in subsequent years.

We would be particularly interested in candidates with experience of or will to gain Health support/First Aid.

This secondary learning facility is designed to support creative approaches to learning, with a range of adaptive teaching spaces. Alongside up to date and digitally enabled classrooms, there is a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) wing, a Learning Resource Centre, extensive facilities to support the arts, and a state of the art sport and leisure complex. Learning and teaching on the campus goes beyond the traditional classroom and encompasses outdoor learning and sustainability. The campus also includes a number of community and health spaces to support collaboration between a range of professionals and sectors.

Each ASN auxiliary is allocated to a strong House Team, and will work closely with the Curriculum Leader for Support for Learning, Pupil Support Workers, classroom teachers, and support staff.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate that they can:

  • Communicate clearly and kindly with young people to help reduce any barriers to presence, participation and achievement in school
  • Work as part of the team around children with ASN, building and maintaining strong relationships in the wider school community
  • Exhibit the interpersonal skills required to play a full part in safeguarding and nurturing young people, offering the right balance of challenge and support
  • Use their initiative and work responsively to meet the needs of the young people in their care
  • Commit to viewing themselves as a lifelong learner, seeking out and taking up opportunities to continually improve their practice

Relevant Qualifications: Good standard of general education. Experience of working with or caring for children with additional support needs.

Nursery Only: SSSC registration is an essential requirement of this role. If you are appointed and are not already a member of the relevant section of the SSSC Register, you will be required to apply for registration within 3 months of your start date to ensure that you are registered within the required 6 months.

PVG Membership: This post is considered as Regulated Work with vulnerable children and/or protected adults, as specified in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. All preferred candidates for posts carrying out regulated work with these groups are required to become a PVG Scheme member, or undergo a PVG Scheme update if they are already a member, prior to any formal offer of employment being made by East Lothian Council.
