Overview

East London Waterworks Park is looking for editors and content designers to contribute to public engagement content for our community-owned park that features biodiverse spaces and free access natural swimming ponds.

Join a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and is raising funds to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot site on Lea Bridge Road into a community-focused park with biodiversity, education, and shared spaces.

Your strategic content creation will help foster a strong connection between our community, the park, and its biodiversity. You will craft compelling narratives that inspire, educate, and engage service users, stakeholders, funders, and the general public to support the park’s mission and sustainability.

What are we looking for?

  • Editorial Vision & Strategy
    Guiding the creation of content that amplifies community voices, celebrates local environmental initiatives, and inspires actionable engagement with green spaces and sustainability efforts.
  • Strong Editing & Proofreading Skills
    Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in grammar, punctuation, and spelling; experience editing diverse content formats.
  • Content Design & Development
    Ability to write clear, concise, and engaging content for diverse audiences; experience adapting content for various platforms; strong storytelling and narrative skills.
  • Visual Communication
    Understanding of visual hierarchy and how to use images and graphics effectively; basic knowledge of design principles and layout.
  • Community Engagement Focus
    Interest in community-led projects and the ability to adapt content to resonate with local needs and interests.
  • Desirable Skills & Experience
    Experience with content management systems; basic graphic design skills (e.g., Canva); interest in environmental sustainability; volunteer experience with community organisations.
  • Key Qualities
    Creative, excellent communication and interpersonal skills; collaborative and team-oriented; proactive and self-motivated.

What will you be doing?

We are looking for writers, editors, and content designers to participate in our community-led working group, growing support for the project through public engagement work. There is opportunity to lead engagement projects exploring how architects, ecologists, community researchers, campaigners, fundraisers, and communications professionals can collaborate to create community infrastructure. There are also opportunities across communications including content creation, social media, PR, newsletters, film, podcasts, long-form video content, or other channels, and the potential to help steer the strategic direction of the working group.

The Comms Circle currently meets fortnightly on a Tuesday evening via Google Meet and volunteers contribute additional time to complete tasks remotely.
