Overview

This developmental band 5 to 6 post offers an exciting opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapist to develop and consolidate specialist skills and knowledge working with adults with neurological conditions, including stroke, in a community setting. This post is ideal for a Speech and Language Therapist who is looking to gain further specialist knowledge, skills and experience as a band 5, before moving into a band 6 role. This post is open to someone who has already worked as a Speech and Language Therapist with adults in a health or social care setting, but who may be considering a move to community or developing specialism in stroke and neurology.

Team and Settings

You will become a member of a friendly, well-established multidisciplinary team which includes Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Clinical Psychologists and Rehabilitation Support Workers. We offer Early Supported Discharge, Community Stroke and Neuro Rehab pathways within the London Borough of Newham. Our team delivers therapy in a range of settings, including patient’s homes, nursing homes, via telehealth, outpatient clinics, or appropriate community locations. We have strong links to the consultant-led teams in the local stroke and neuro rehab services and provide an in-reach service to facilitate a safe and timely discharge for our patients.

Development and Practice

We work closely with the research community and actively participate in current research projects. We also have in-house links with the Stroke Association and regularly work with voluntary services, for example, our longstanding local aphasia group.

You will have access to preceptorship and will be supported through well-defined supervision systems and continuous professional development opportunities, both uni- and multidisciplinary and external. You will be supported to continue to develop your skills in the management of acquired dysphagia and communication difficulties. You will have the opportunity to supervise students on placement and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings.
