Our client within the Heywood area, which is a small innovative business specialising in the manufacture of high quality medical and laboratory microbiology products, is looking to recruit a Production Manager to join their team. You will be the key driver of all their manufacturing operations, ensuring smooth production of all medical and laboratory microbiology products (such as culture media, diagnostic kits and sterile consumables). They are looking for a proactive leader with a passion for optimising production processes in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities:
- Production Organisation & Management
- Overseeing all operations, planning, scheduling and execution of production runs for medical and laboratory microbiology products.
- Develop and track useful Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as production yield, on-time delivery rates, waste reduction and quality defect metrics.
- Use data to drive continuous improvement, reporting insights to senior management.
- Adhere to all regulatory requirements for medical devices and microbiology products.
- Conduct risk assessment, audits and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Promote a safe working environment, conducting regular safety training and ensuring compliance with COSHH and other relevant regulations.
- Collaborate with purchasing and suppliers for raw materials and manage inventory to support production needs without excess stock.
- Strategic planning with day-to-day oversight, focusing on quality, efficiency and compliance to industry standards like ISO 13485.
- Lead and motivate a production team of 30-35 staff including managing staff holidays, rotas and absences to ensure uninterrupted operations.
- Handle disciplinary matters fairly and in line with company policies, fostering a positive work culture through training, performance reviews and team development.
3-5 years proven experience of working as a Production Manager or similar role in manufacturing, ideally within medical devices, pharmaceuticals or laboratory products. You will have experience of managing staff and a strong knowledge of production processes, including manual and semi-automated systems. Familiarity with developing and using KPIs to improve performance. Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel for data analysis and basic ERP or other production planning software. Qualification in manufacturing, engineering or related field (HND, Degree in Biology/Microbiology or operations management). Experience in microbiology-specific production (e.g. aseptic techniques, cleanroom environments). Lean Six Sigma certification or similar process improvement training.
Hours: 8.30am-5.30pm Monday – Thursday, 8.30am-12.45 Friday (Some flexibility will be required around these hours).
