The Exciting Role A new and exciting opportunity has become available for a Learning Support Teacher & Assessor to join our highly regarded Additional Learning Support team. This specialist role combines high-quality SEND teaching and intervention with responsibility for the assessment and implementation of Exam Access Arrangements (EAA) across the College. As the designated assessor, you will play a critical role in ensuring learners receive fair and appropriate access arrangements in line with current JCQ regulations, enabling them to demonstrate their knowledge and skills without disadvantage. Working with learners aged 16-18, apprentices and adults, you will use your expertise to assess need, remove barriers to learning and support learner achievement. Alongside delivering targeted interventions, you will work closely with curriculum teams, Additional Learning Support colleagues and the Exams team to ensure robust assessment processes, accurate documentation and effective implementation of approved arrangements. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced practitioner with specialist assessment qualifications who is passionate about inclusion, learner success and maintaining the highest standards of compliance and professional practice.
The successful candidate will work across Accrington & Rossendale College and Nelson & Colne College, providing specialist support to learners and staff across both sites as part of a collaborative Additional Learning Support team. Please note: This is a specialist assessment role and applicants must hold a Level 7 Specialist Assessment Qualification and have experience conducting JCQ-compliant Exam Access Arrangement assessments.
What You Will Be Doing
- Deliver specialist teaching, targeted intervention and additional learning support through 1:1, paired and small group sessions.
- Assess learners' barriers to learning and develop personalised support plans and intervention strategies.
- Manage a caseload of learners with SEND and additional support needs, monitoring progress and reviewing outcomes.
- Support learners to develop study skills, literacy, numeracy, communication, organisation and independent learning strategies.
- Conduct specialist Exam Access Arrangement assessments in line with current JCQ regulations.
- Complete and maintain all required EAA documentation, including Form 8, Form 9 and supporting evidence.
- Work collaboratively with curriculum teams and the Exams team to ensure approved arrangements are implemented effectively.
- Support learners through EHCP reviews, transition planning and progression activities.
- Deliver guidance and staff development relating to SEND, inclusive practice and Exam Access Arrangements.
- Promote the effective use of assistive technologies and inclusive learning tools across provision.
What We Are Looking For
- A Level 7 Specialist Assessment Qualification (e.g. CPT3A or equivalent) enabling assessment for JCQ Exam Access Arrangements.
- Significant experience carrying out JCQ-compliant Exam Access Arrangement assessments and producing supporting evidence and documentation.
- A thorough working knowledge of current JCQ regulations, the SEND Code of Practice and the Equality Act 2010.
- Experience supporting learners with SEND, barriers to learning and additional support needs within a post-16, Further Education or adult learning environment.
- Experience developing learner support plans and delivering targeted interventions that improve learner outcomes.
- Excellent communication, organisational and record-keeping skills, with the ability to manage a varied caseload and work to strict deadlines.
Job Details
Salary: Up to Β£41,937 per annum, depending on experience.
Hours: 35 per week.
Working Weeks: Full Year.
