Join our team as a Finance Accounts Apprentice – make your work count! Are you passionate about a career in finance and eager to make a meaningful impact in people's lives? The finance team at East Kent Mencap is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join us as an Accounts Apprentice. At East Kent Mencap, we understand that effective financial management is the backbone of our charity, enabling us to grow and deliver essential support to individuals with learning disabilities. Every penny counts, and your role will be essential in ensuring our funds are managed efficiently to maximise our impact.
How You Will Help Us
Working with us means you will be part of a team that values social impact as much as financial success. Your work will help ensure that we can continue to support individuals with learning disabilities, offering them the independence and community inclusion they deserve. Plus, you will gain hands-on financial experience and professional development in a supportive and inclusive environment.
The Level 3 Apprenticeship
To support the goals of your fully funded apprenticeship, East Kent Mencap will provide opportunities for you to master the ins and outs of purchasing and expenditure, from processing purchase and hire requisitions to obtaining quotes and preparing purchase orders. You will also develop skills in credit control and invoicing, maintaining the purchase ledger, balancing credit card charges, and entering supplier payments into the accounting system. You will get to work with software like SAGE and Excel, assisting with invoicing tasks.
General finance duties will be a key part of your apprenticeship. You will learn how to code and process invoices, handle banking tasks, and maintain accurate records. Managing income, petty cash accounts, and updating the asset register will become second nature to you.
Supporting the team is another vital aspect of this role. As you gain confidence and experience, you will provide updates and resolve queries related to invoices and supplier accounts, assist colleagues with finance-related enquiries, and ensure compliance with GDPR by maintaining confidentiality.
What’s in it for you?
You will earn a competitive salary while you learn, enjoy generous holidays, and benefit from our pension scheme. Our benefits package includes access to shopping and recreation discounts, length-of-service holidays, and an employee assistance programme. Plus, you will have continuous opportunities for professional growth and development.
Our Candidate
We are looking for candidates with GCSEs in Maths and English (grades 4-9) or a willingness to pass Functional Skills exams. Proficiency in Microsoft 365, including Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, is essential. Strong communication skills, a team player attitude, and a commitment to East Kent Mencap’s values and goals are also important.
We reserve the right to close the job immediately should we receive sufficient early applications.
