Job summary
As a team we are working hard to ensure we put patients at the heart of everything we do, we perform a range of diagnostic cardiac tests and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team across all of East Kent Hospitals.
The department is accredited to deliver training at all levels; National school accredited to deliver STP and HSST training and apprenticeship training (level 4-6) so the post holder will be actively engaged and enthusiastic about teaching and continuous quality improvement.
The Cardiology department at East Kent Hospitals provides a range of diagnostic tests. William Harvey hospital has 2 dedicated cardiac catheter labs providing a 24/7 primary PCI for Kent, complex coronary interventions including rotablation, IVUS/FFR and shockwave. Within our pacing service the trust implant and follow up a range of devices (brady and complex) including HIS bundle pacing and S-ICD. We are also proud to have a physiologist led ILR implantation service and device pre-assessment clinics
The department has a large echocardiography service supported by 2 imaging cardiologists. Performing standard transthoracic echocardiography, stress echo (exercise and dobutamine) TOE and a large physiologist led valve clinic and dedicated oncology and contrast sessions. The department has strong governance and teaching structure – with weekly echo review meetings and regular audits undertaken.
Main duties of the job
As senior Cardiac Physiologist you will also be expected to be able to carry out, or undertake training in, all of the cardiac tests performed by the Department and to do so as required, with the opportunity to train in EP. You will also provide leadership, support and give advice to junior members of the team and other health professionals as necessary.
In return you will enjoy working alongside:
- A multi-disciplinary team of physiologists, several BSE accredited in Echocardiography with others completing the process, BHRS/IBHRE accredited staff in devices and EP
- Two imaging consultants with particular interest in echocardiography including Stress Echocardiography, Bubble/Contrast studies and TOEs.
- Currently 15 cardiologists across the trust with various specialisms, some Interventionalists, some pacing/devices specialists.
And be part of:
- A complex device service with regular ILR,pacemaker, ICD and CRT implants with an extensive follow-up service.
- Developing cardiac catheter suite – an established pPCI service of approximately 750 patients per year, 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Currently Performing Rotablation, OCT, FFR and IVUS and Shockwave due to be brought in very shortly. Three labs currently, two designed for angiography procedures and one for pacing implants
- An expanding Electrophysiology service with several trained EP physiologists now working in the trust
