The Music School of Douglas Academy was established in 1979 as a national centre of excellence. Since this date it has offered the highest quality tuition in all aspects of music. The school provides tuition for pupils of secondary school age in a suite of specialist rooms within a modern school building. Applications for entry are received from throughout Scotland and further afield. Specialist tuition is provided in a variety of musical styles.

You will be required to:

  • Have experience of teaching gifted students to a high level
  • Teach students assigned by the Course Director
  • Prepare appropriately for weekly lessons
  • Assess, record and report on the work of students
  • Accompany and coach students up to diploma level and beyond
  • Lead performance classes when required
  • Play for concerts and extra engagements as required
  • Encourage students in all that they do to reach their full potential
  • Ensure that students have an effective work regime
  • Be aware of the students’ requirements for their general musical education
  • Be aware of students’ general education requirements within Douglas Academy
  • Prepare students for internal assessments and external examinations as appropriate
  • Prepare students for recitals and auditions when appropriate

Where the post you are applying for is considered a Regulated Role under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020, successful candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check, prior to confirmation of employment being made by East Dunbartonshire Council.

Please note successful candidates will be expected to meet the cost of the relevant check which will be deducted from the successful candidate’s first salary payment. In specific circumstances the payment could be deducted in instalments from an employee’s wages following commencement of employment. Approval in such circumstances will be made by the HR & OD Manager. Should an employee leave in advance of the payment being deducted, the full amount will be deducted from the employee’s final salary.
