Job Summary

East Coast Community Healthcare are recruiting a Clinical Educator to be embedded within each Primary Care Home team. The Clinical Educator will support staff within the teams in developing skills and competency in line with workforce and development Strategy. They will be part of a small team of Clinical Educators embedded within services that will deliver a programme of education of appropriate skills and knowledge across the workforce to meet the demands of service as well as maintaining clinical practice.

Each Clinical Educator in the team will have their own individual skill set and be able to blend delivery on certain topics to provide resilience in the programme. Learners will be from pre-professional, preregistration, non-registered and registered workforce. The postholder will work closely with the Education and Training department to provide effective and efficient use of time and resource to learning needs in the organisation, preventing duplication and responding to urgent demand as required.

Main duties of the job

  • Support workforce in practice to embed evidenced based practice and high quality standards of service delivery.
  • Plan and deliver suite of training to support Clinical Education and Workforce Development Strategy.
  • Work with leadership to understand gaps in skills and knowledge and plan accordingly in line role.
  • Use a wide range of educational/training equipment and technology providing learners with broad access to learning resources and safe use of clinical tools.
  • Work with staff/students on request, particularly if they have specific learning needs identified/during induction period.
  • Maintain own clinical competence appropriate to the area of employment.
  • Assist mentors and practice educators to facilitate the integration of theory and practice in students/learners/trainees as appropriate, within the practice learning environment.

Job Description

Job responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver suite of training to support Clinical Education and Workforce Development Strategy
  • Participate in the creation of a competency framework
  • Use a wide range of educational/training equipment and technology providing learners with broad access to learning resources and safe use of clinical tools.
  • Maintain accurate documentation around all aspects of training delivery including planning, attendance and evaluation.
  • Support workforce in practice to embed evidenced based practice and high quality standards of service delivery.
  • Provide support for those supervising and mentoring students on pre-registration programmes.
  • Work with leadership to understand gaps in skills and knowledge and plan accordingly in line role.
  • Contribute to effective partnership working between the practice placement areas and the HEIs.
  • Establish and explore strategies to enhance the clinical learning environment.
  • Support the ongoing development of new and existing educators and mentors in the workplace promoting engagement in education at all levels.
  • Contribute to the development of policies and guidelines applicable to the learning environment.
  • Be involved with recruitment processes for entry to pre-registration programmes at local and regional HEIs.
  • Work with other key personnel in contributing to the audit of clinical placements and maintenance of the audit cycle within the organisation.

Educational and Clinical Responsibilities

  • Assist mentors and practice educators to facilitate the integration of theory and practice in students/learners/trainees as appropriate, within the practice learning environment.
  • Be up to date with students’ curriculum and understand the assessment process for students.
  • Work with staff/students on request, particularly if they have specific learning needs identified/during induction period.
  • Provide educators and students with relevant teaching/support sessions.
  • Provide support for mentors to ensure effective supervision, assessment and informed decision making in relation to learners particularly in complex situations around the assessment and judgement regarding student work.
  • Raise awareness and understanding of the value of in-service training to improve patient care and service delivery in the development of the Community model of care.
  • Contribute to the development of a robust pre-registration student induction.
  • Promote effective feedback to learners and educators to continually review and develop education delivery.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain continuous professional development in line with Organisational policy and Professional Regulators.
  • Recognise own learning needs and source activity/support required to meet knowledge gap.
  • Contribute to the ongoing evaluation and development of the post and improve own knowledge utilising appraisal and review process and professional regulatory requirements.
  • Comply with the relevant Code of Professional Conduct which supports and maintains standards of Professional Practice.
  • Support current and future project evaluations.
  • Contribute to the dissemination of project remit and outcomes.
  • Work as part of a self-supporting team providing consistent and robust support to all learners in the clinical area.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

  • Professional Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Registered Nurse Level 1 (Adult)
  • BSc in Nursing Practice or evidence of working at equivalent level
  • Mentor Preparation or equivalent
  • Train the trainer or willingness to undertake
  • Formal training qualification or willingness to undertake.

  • Previous experience of working with pre-registration learners in the practice setting/adult learners/healthcare teams.
  • Good knowledge of the NMC Approved programmes and associated regulatory standards.
  • Knowledge of coaching models within the practice education setting.
  • Ability to negotiate at a senior level.

Desirable

  • Basic experience of teaching within a formal setting.
  • Experience in practice-based clinical education.
