About East Bierley Golf Club
East Bierley Golf Club opened its doors in 1909 and has been based at its current site since 1923 but it is really in the last 30 years that major changes and improvements have taken place. It started with the purchase of the course, the building of a purpose-built clubhouse and machinery shed.
The club features:
- c. 200 members across flexible categories
- Modern clubhouse
Over the last two years East Bierley Golf Club have replaced most of our machinery with modern up to date equipment; ensuring that dealing with breakdowns and constant emergency maintenance will not be the primary focus of the Greenkeepers working week.
Job Purpose
The Head Greenkeeper is responsible for the day-to-day management and operations of the golf course and surrounding grounds. This role ensures the course is presented to the highest standard, is safe and enjoyable for golfers, and operates efficiently within budget.
The Head Greenkeeper, working with one Deputy Greenkeeper, will manage the course budget and assets, and work collaboratively with the Chair of Greens to contribute to the overall growth of the club.
Key Responsibilities
Course Maintenance & Agronomy
- Plan and implement maintenance schedules, including mowing, aeration, fertilization, and other cultural practices
- Maintain mechanical knowledge of golf course equipment and keep up‑to‑date with industry innovations.
Health & Safety
- Conduct risk assessments and maintain a safe working environment
- Ensure compliance with chemical application/storage regulations
- Maintain sound Health & Safety knowledge within the greenkeeping industry
Operations & Projects
- Plan, organise, and direct daily golf course operations
- Oversee small ‘course improvement’ projects including greens, tees, bunkers, drainage, water storage, and general improvements
- Implement policies and procedures for safe and effective course operations
Qualifications & Experience
- NVQ Level 2 & 3 in Sports Turf Management;
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in a Deputy Greenkeeper role
- Relevant spraying qualifications
- Strong mechanical, agronomic, and operational knowledge
