Job overview

We are recruiting for a Deputy Finance Manager who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

This role is pivotal in enabling the Trust to continue to provide excellent finance support to its clinical departments.

The successful candidate will have experience of delivering clear and accurate data so key messages are understood. You will be able to offer robust and pro-active advice to non-finance managers. You will be enthusiastic about leading a small team to deliver outputs to tight deadlines.

You will be an ambitious, motivated and an experienced management accountant who is keen to support the finance department and our key operational and clinical stakeholders. You will have the opportunity to build on your previous experience to further develop your financial and leadership skills.

Our Finance Department has recently been awarded “One NHS Towards Excellence” Accreditation Level 2. The Trust offers excellent opportunities for training and professional studying.

Main duties of the job

  1. To provide accurate and timely financial reporting and advice to the Planned Care divisional management team and budget holders.
  2. To lead on all issues of financial control for the areas allocated, which may include Trust-wide projects.
  3. To monitor actual performance against plan, for both income and expenditure, anticipating and initiating management action where required.
  4. To assist the Senior Finance Manager (SFM) and Heads of Group Finance (HoGF) with monthly reports, business cases, CIP plans and financial recovery actions.
  5. To deputise for the SFM, as required.

Person specification

Qualifications / Training

  • A’ levels or equivalent
  • Completed AAT Technician stage or have equivalent experience in management accounting issues to include budgetary control and costing techniques

Experience

  • Experience of liaison with budget managers at varying levels of seniority
  • Significant experience in all aspects of financial reporting, planning and control.
  • Significant experience of working to tight reporting deadlines.
  • Experience of managing staff
  • Experience in an NHS financial environment

Skills

  • Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Excel, Word and large Ledger systems
  • Ability to apply accounting knowledge and demonstrate analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage/develop a team
  • Familiarity of using reporting / business intelligence packages
  • Ability to undertake training of both junior finance staff and budget managers

Knowledge

  • Management accounting issues to include budgetary control, costing techniques and audit requirements
  • An understanding of NHS Finance
