Structural / Mechanical Approval Engineer β Offshore Equipment Certification Location Aberdeen (Hybrid/Office-Based)About the RoleWe are seeking a Structural / Mechanical Approval Engineer to join a specialist engineering team responsible for the technical assessment and certification of offshore containers, lifting equipment, cargo carrying units (CCUs), and portable offshore units used across the energy industry. This role offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects supporting clients globally within offshore oil & gas, offshore wind, marine, and wider energy sectors. You will be involved in the engineering review, structural assessment, compliance verification, and certification of equipment throughout its design, manufacture, and operational lifecycle.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform structural and mechanical assessments of offshore containers, lifting equipment, and portable offshore units.Review engineering drawings, calculations, material specifications, fabrication details, and test documentation.Conduct structural analysis using engineering software and finite element analysis (FEA) techniques.Assess designs against relevant offshore industry standards, codes, and regulations.Produce technical reports, engineering assessments, and certification recommendations.Support manufacturers, operators, and engineering contractors throughout project delivery.Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring delivery to agreed schedules and budgets.Participate in inspections, audits, and technical reviews where required.Provide technical guidance to clients and internal stakeholders.Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and the development of engineering best practices. Requirements EssentialDegree or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.Strong understanding of:Structural mechanicsMaterials and fabrication methodsLoad calculations and load combinationsWelded structuresEngineering analysis techniquesExperience performing structural calculations and engineering assessments.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to produce clear and concise technical reports.Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.Ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines. DesirableExperience in offshore, marine, lifting equipment, heavy engineering, renewables, or oil & gas sectors.Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience using software such as ANSYS, Abaqus, SESAM, SACS, STAAD Pro, or similar.Knowledge of offshore container, lifting appliance, or structural certification standards.Experience working within engineering assurance, verification, certification, or compliance environments.Chartered Engineer status or progress toward chartership.
