The Senior Onshore Civils Project Engineer will play a key role in defining the optimal solution for the onshore infrastructure associated with the project. The role will include the Landfall, onshore cable route, and the onshore substation. The successful candidate will have strong project management skills and knowledge of the onshore civil works which are required for the development and operations of an offshore wind farm. Experience working in offshore wind is not essential, though this would be an advantage, and transferable skills from a related industry would be necessary.

Your key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Thrive as part of a multi-disciplinary team of technical specialists supporting all stages of the offshore wind farm
  • Support the site selection and design activities through the consent phase
  • Manage the civil engineering activities and design contract during the FEED and Detailed Design stages, and then continue supporting the project on into construction
  • Ensure alignment with the CDM and company policies
  • Support Offshore Operations in driving the lifecycle implementation strategy for the installed works
  • Manage and implement onshore site investigation works
  • Deliver specialist engineering knowledge for onshore cable routing and crossing design (with particular emphasis on trenchless methods)
  • Support with technical input to landowner negotiations
  • Mentor and develop junior and associate colleagues within the team
  • Support preparing the employer’s requirements and technical specifications through the tender process with technical input to programme development
  • Participate in the procurement activities associated with onshore civil works in the project
  • Provide financial estimates for the project cost book based on your experience from similar schemes and extrapolations from prior projects
  • Management of sub-consultants, ensuring that safety in design is appropriately accounted for in the designs and that quality requirements are met
  • Work closely across all interfaces with internal stakeholders, external design houses and Contractors to produce cost-effective and value-added solutions
  • Ensure that all lessons learned from the completed works are incorporated into future projects.

Essential skill requirements:

  • Educated to degree level in civil or structural engineering or equivalent experience
  • Have a successful track record in the delivery of onshore civil works within the power industry
  • Project management experience in the offshore industry from either design, construction, or operations
  • Strong appreciation for CDM Regulations, safe systems of work and Environmental requirements
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, able to communicate effectively within a team
  • The capability to work within a team and to manage competing demands from the project
  • Strong coordination and leadership skills; highly motivated; confident and resourceful
  • The drive and motivation to meet the time, cost and quality targets

Desirable skills:

  • Member of professional engineering body
  • Understand the process of developing and constructing the onshore portion of an offshore wind farm
  • A proven track record in civil engineering development and installation of an Onshore HV electrical system and a HV substation
  • Deep understanding of onshore civil design across the entire project lifecycle from pre-FEED to detailed design
  • Understanding and ability to communicate with other engineering disciplines
  • Understand the range of available civil engineering methodologies, including cable placement/HDD, with a practical approach to implementation
  • Ability to carry out/participate in risk management and optioneering to obtain the most favourable outcomes/solutions
  • Development of EPC-type technical contracts from a Client perspective

  • Degree/diploma in Civil, Structural/mechanical Engineering
